MUST SOCIÉTÉ QUÉBEC

Sainte-Foy (Québec)

2022

This second intervention on the Complan building, originally built in 1958 and partially transformed in 2013 with a fifth floor in exposed wood structure, required careful integration to respect previous architectural gestures. The formerly blank west façade was opened up to create a visible entry point and reveal the building's inner activity. This vertical cut extends up to the third floor, showcasing the commercial function while giving the building a lighter presence.

The architectural language of the new addition draws inspiration from textile, echoing the site's commercial use. A perforated double-skin façade connects the new volume with the existing structure, introducing a rhythm and translucency that ties both expressions together.

On the third floor, subtly textured metal panels alternate with wood inserts, forming a façade that responds to the perspective along Laurier Boulevard. The angled panels create a shifting visual effect as one moves along the street, reinforcing the dialogue between architecture and movement.

The extension is capped with a tapered, protective roof that clearly delineates the intervention while unifying the overall composition.
