ARAGO SPOT
Québec
2015
This urban infill project reflects a desire to live closer to the city core while ensuring a careful integration into the surrounding neighborhood. The inverted program layout – placing the master bedroom on the ground floor and the living areas above – enhances natural light in the main spaces and connects them directly to a south-facing terrace located above the garage. This configuration maximizes sunlight while maintaining privacy through a planted screen and a garden buffer along the street façade.
A naturally lit, open staircase leads to the living areas designed as an urban lookout. The backyard remains lush and vegetated, contrasting with the built density of the area. Materials such as Corten steel panels, Iron Spot brick, high-end acrylic coating, and exotic wood cladding establish a dialogue between the architectural expression and the neighborhood context.
The recessed ground floor of the main façade defines a sheltered entrance while activating the street front. This move improves the transition between private and public spaces and resonates with the urban alignments of adjacent buildings.
