SARAH’S HOUSE
Québec
2007
Set beneath mature trees in the Méandres neighbourhood, Sarah’s House emerged from a close collaboration between the owners and their architect. Designed for a young family, the residence explores the potential of self-construction through a sustainable and cost-effective approach. Its simple geometry adapts to the triangular shape of the lot, following the curve of rue des Bois-Brulés.
The architecture unfolds in four distinct volumes: an insulated polycarbonate garage, a masonry base, an upper level clad in torrefied wood, and green roofs. The interior design favours functionality and natural materials. Thoughtfully positioned windows create dynamic sightlines while maintaining privacy—particularly allowing Sarah to enjoy views from her perspective. The grass driveway serves as a stormwater retention surface, reinforcing the project’s ecological approach within the landscape design.
The house reflects a desire to create a living environment that is accessible, personal, and integrated with its context.
