VILLA Boréale

Charlevoix

2015

The Ville Boréale is a charming residence located in the Charlevoix region. Contemporary in nature, it harmoniously blends with the site's abundant vegetation. The clients, a dynamic young couple in their early thirties, approached the CARGOarchitecture team to find an architect who could assist them throughout the construction process.

The collaboration began with the search for the ideal site in the Municipality of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, near the Le Massif ski resort. By being involved from the beginning of the project, the architect was able to adequately advise the clients on the various aspects to consider and the future impacts in the project's development.

The project was designed with a simple overarching vision: a Scandinavian-inspired chalet with clean lines and a modern barn aesthetic. Raw materials influenced the overall concept, as did light tones and natural textures like wood, concrete, and shades of white. Black metal then creates a striking contrast, highlighting the matte, smooth finish of the steel and the natural grain of Eastern white cedar. Additionally, since the site entrance is higher than the ground floor level, it became imperative to clad the roof in the same black metal to provide a refined visual cue from the very first glance.

As the design progressed, the site quickly emerged as a powerful element of the project. By carefully selecting the placement and dimensions of each window, the exterior views were highlighted, and the atmosphere created by natural light remains pleasant throughout the day.

By positioning the large sliding door towards the main space, the intention is to subtly separate the different interior functions while creating a sheltered area at the exit.

All these interventions aim to capture the essence of this project: the surrounding nature and wildlife.
