CARGOarchitecture's second major intervention on the Complan Building built in 1958 was not without challenges. It was necessary to intervene in the respect of the existing building, and this without coming into conflict with the important expression of the 5th floor in exposed wooden structure built in 2013.

We had to strengthen the brand image of the trade with an intervention that will benefit from the high traffic of this artery. The objective was to create a lantern at the entrance to the city drawing on the dynamism of the boulevard, without altering the rigidity of the existing building.

We therefore exposed the west facade which was almost blind in order to activate the arrival at the building. This intervention extends to the third floor to give an impressive showcase to commerce and a lightness to the once massive and introverted building.

This time, the order consisted of fitting out, raising a level and ensuring universal accessibility on the two-storey basilica near Boulevard Laurier to accommodate the first location of the Must Société Store in Quebec City.
The contents of the building being exposed, it came naturally to be inspired by textiles, in connection with the furniture store, to create a double perforated facade ensuring cohesion between the new and the existing.

Le nouveau porche s’exprime comme un cube d’acier Corten qui se déploie jusqu’aux marches extérieures afin de s’intégrer harmonieusement à la maison existante. À l’intérieur, son réaménagement lui permet d’assumer pleinement sa fonction de rangement intérieur.

Kimoli consiste en la reconstruction et l’agrandissement d’un porche d’entrée d’une maison existante et en un réaménagement complet de son rez-de-chaussée, dont les espaces de la cuisine, de la salle-à-manger et du salon, ainsi que de leurs espaces des services tel que salles de bain et rangements. 

À l’extérieur, le revêtement d’acier Corten en façade, donne à ce lumineux jumelé de Sillery un caractère unique ainsi qu’une belle sobriété, de par la nature minérale de ce matériau.

En lien avec ce nouveau hall d’entrée, l’élimination d’une cloison et le remplacement du muret en gypse plein séparant les deux niveaux du rez-de-chaussée par un garde-corps de verre, permet d’ouvrir l’espace principal pour créer une aire ouverte liant le nouveau hall d’entrée, la cuisine, la salle-à-manger et le salon.

Le concept mise sur une efficacité de l’espace et des lignes épurées. Une attention particulière a été portée sur les détails de finition.

Ainsi, la cuisine est composée de matériaux de qualité comme le plaquage de bois, le quartz et le granit. Le garde-corps de l’escalier principal, initialement constitué de barrotins de bois traditionnels, laisse maintenant place à des tiges d’acier solidement tendues qui traversent les 3 niveaux communicants.
