CARGOarchitecture's second major intervention on the Complan Building built in 1958 was not without challenges. It was necessary to intervene in the respect of the existing building, and this without coming into conflict with the important expression of the 5th floor in exposed wooden structure built in 2013.

We had to strengthen the brand image of the trade with an intervention that will benefit from the high traffic of this artery. The objective was to create a lantern at the entrance to the city drawing on the dynamism of the boulevard, without altering the rigidity of the existing building.

We therefore exposed the west facade which was almost blind in order to activate the arrival at the building. This intervention extends to the third floor to give an impressive showcase to commerce and a lightness to the once massive and introverted building.

This time, the order consisted of fitting out, raising a level and ensuring universal accessibility on the two-storey basilica near Boulevard Laurier to accommodate the first location of the Must Société Store in Quebec City.
The contents of the building being exposed, it came naturally to be inspired by textiles, in connection with the furniture store, to create a double perforated facade ensuring cohesion between the new and the existing.

Authenticité, simplicité et durabilité sont les valeurs entourant le choix de matériaux du projet. La partie basse du volume principal arborera de la maçonnerie de brique. La partie haute du même volume, quant à elle, sera recouverte d’une toiture mansardée en revêtement métallique de style baguette que l’on retrouve sur la plupart des résidences voisines de l’Avenue Royale. 

La conception du projet de l'Avenue Royale a largement été inspirée et guidée par l’architecture des bâtiments patrimoniaux adjacents au projet. Le projet s’illustre donc par un bâtiment homologue aux bâtiments avoisinants, avec une touche contemporaine. Ainsi, ce dernier révèle la richesse du patrimoine architectural existant du Vieux-Beauport, tout en affichant une allure plus actuelle et dynamique. Pour favoriser l’intégration du projet au paysage urbain, la dimension du bâtiment a été déterminée en fonction des habitations avoisinantes. En effet, le projet vise également une densification dite « douce », qui reflète les unités potentielles réalisables selon les normes prévues lors d’un lotissement.

Le projet met en valeur l’utilisation de matériaux durables, de grande qualité et de caractère historique, ce qui assure la pérennité de l’apparence du projet dans le paysage urbain au fil des années. Enfin, le choix judicieux de finis extérieurs ayant un caractère historique rend hommage à l’architecture patrimoniale et assure l’intégration du bâtiment dans son environnement.

La plupart des résidences sur l’Avenue Royale ont souvent des balcons couverts ou une véranda en façade avant. Des balcons ont été intégrés à l’architecture du bâtiment projeté afin de signifier et exprimer la pureté des angles de la toiture en mansarde.

À l’instar des constructions de l’époque, les fenêtres sont de dimension uniforme et sont bordées d’un cadrage affirmant l’ouverture, suivant des lignes simples et contemporaines.
