CARGOarchitecture's second major intervention on the Complan Building built in 1958 was not without challenges. It was necessary to intervene in the respect of the existing building, and this without coming into conflict with the important expression of the 5th floor in exposed wooden structure built in 2013.

We had to strengthen the brand image of the trade with an intervention that will benefit from the high traffic of this artery. The objective was to create a lantern at the entrance to the city drawing on the dynamism of the boulevard, without altering the rigidity of the existing building.

We therefore exposed the west facade which was almost blind in order to activate the arrival at the building. This intervention extends to the third floor to give an impressive showcase to commerce and a lightness to the once massive and introverted building.

This time, the order consisted of fitting out, raising a level and ensuring universal accessibility on the two-storey basilica near Boulevard Laurier to accommodate the first location of the Must Société Store in Quebec City.

The contents of the building being exposed, it came naturally to be inspired by textiles, in connection with the furniture store, to create a double perforated facade ensuring cohesion between the new and the existing.

Une fois livrés au chantier, les volumes seront superposés. Puis, il ne restera que les travaux de finition, de raccordement et d’aménagement paysager à réaliser.

Le concept de la Maison en T est basé sur le principe constructif de la préfabrication. L’idée est de réduire les coûts de construction en fabriquant en usine les deux volumes principaux.

Afin de bien intégrer la maison dans ce secteur particulièrement sensible de Sillery, une grande attention fut portée au choix des revêtements extérieurs (parements de cèdres et de briques blanches).

Un effort particulier a également été fait pour introduire le caractère verdoyant du quartier dans le projet (la majorité des toits forment des jardins de plantes indigènes et graminées).

À l’intérieur, la répartition astucieuse des espaces servants (hall et corridor d’entrée, escalier, salle de bain), permet d’articuler intelligemment les espaces servis (pièces de vie et chambres), afin de maximiser l’impression de grandeur malgré une superficie relativement petite.
